Print and Framing Options

Creating the final print is what really makes the art. A great image on your computer screen does not automatically translate to a great print on your wall! My fine art prints are available in a variety of sizes and mediums, and I can create a print in any custom size you need. When you view specific pictures in the Galleries, just click on the Buy Now button to see and choose your options and show the price. Below are some more details on my different print options and information on framing options.

Photographic Prints
These are printed on archival papers, and treated with a lustre sealer. This protects them from fingerprints and UV lights. The prints you see at my shows are 12×16 loose prints. These can be framed directly behind glass in a 12×16 frame, or matted they perfectly fit a standard 16×20 frame. I can print any size you like, either as a loose print or matted to a specific size. My matted prints use archival mats, in white, or another colors on request, and use acid free artist tape. My photographic prints will last many decades without fading in a normal household or office environment, but it is best to avoid hanging them in extended direct sunlight. I do my own printing, except for extra large sizes.
Canvas Prints
My canvas images are printed on an archival artist canvas, and have a protective coating that protects them from fading by UV light, and from airborne contaminants, spills and fingerprints. No glass is needed, and that means no reflections, and the image is easily visible from any angle. The canvas, inks and sealer combination I use are rated to not fade for over 100 years! I do my own canvas printing, except for extra large sizes. There are three options available:
- Gallery wraps, where the image is stretched and the image wraps around the sides. No framing is needed, and they come ready to hang. The 10x15 prints are 3/4" deep, and larger sizes are 1.5" deep.
- Framed canvas print. The canvas print is mounted on a board in a wood frame. See below for the frame options. If you order a framed print I will contact you to confirm the frame style you want.
- Unframed canvas print. The canvas print is mounted to a board, ready to be placed in your own frame. The 1/8" board allow the print to fit any frame, so a special canvas frame with a deep rabbbet is not required.

24x36 Framed Dye-Infused Aluminum of "Sunrise at Portland Head Light"
Dye-Infused Aluminum
Nothing matches the brilliance and depth of a dye-infused aluminum print! Printing with this method makes the image comes to life with colors and hues that are more rich than paper or canvas because the image is infused into the metal, rather than simply printed on the surface. The surface is scratch-resistant, waterproof and can be cleaned easily. I use three carefully selected labs whose quality I trust, since I do not have this special (and expensive!) equipment.
Infused aluminum prints can either be float mounted to hang 3/4" off the wall with no frame, making for a very modern-looking presentation. A float mount also allows for very large sizes, up to 72" wide.
They can also be framed like a more traditional print. If you order a framed print I will contact you to confirm the frame style you want.
These also lend themselves well to triptychs, allowing for more economical large sized displays. See examples below.
About Dye-Infused Aluminum
To create these the image is printed on a substrate which is then overlayed on a sheet of specially treated aluminum. They are then placed in a heat press at 425 degrees for 75 seconds. The special ink instantly turns to a gas and vaporizes (infuses) into the aluminum.
Acrylic Prints
Present your image in a stunning way and differentiate it from other artwork with a crystal clear, high gloss Acrylic finish! Using exclusive high grade acrylic, these provide a superior UV light protection and a scratch resistance coating. Your print is face mounted in a fully acid-free manner to the acrylic, and the front face is finished with a beveled edge to prevent crazing or cracking along the edges with regular cleaning. A protective, acid-free black coating is applied to the back of the acrylic face-mounted print and completed with a 0.5” recessed backing with concealed French cleat hanger to give it a floating effect when mounted on the wall. These are typically presented as a float mount, though framing is also available. This is also the best option for really large pieces, such as this 48"x87" acrylic print, custom sized to match the sofa (almost the size of a full sheet of plywood!)

Laminated Prints
These are archival quality prints with a UV, scratch and water resistant laminate, protecting the print. This allows for display without glass, reducing reflections and glare. This is a great alternative to aluminum finishes where reflections may be a problem. These are typically presented framed, though a float mount option is available on request.
Framing & Display Options
Framed (for any printing method)- I have frames with a classic, traditional look, as well as more modern, sleek framing options. Below are some images from my art show booth showing various images and frames, followed by specific frame styles and actual examples from my booth. If you are ordering a framed piece, I will contact you to discuss the options, and provide a suggested frame style. You may also send me a picture of your wall and I can virtually display some choices. My goal is to provide you a finished piece that will work with your space, and you will be happy with.
Unframed (for aluminum, laminated print or canvas) - I can also provide your image with no mounting hardware so you can provide your own framing.
Float Mount (for aluminum or acrylic) - You image is mounted on a framework attached to the back of the image so the images floats" about 3/4" off the wall with no frame, making for a very modern looking presentation.
Triptych (for aluminum, acrylic or canvas) - This is three (or perhaps 2 or 4) float mount prints (typically aluminum, but any format) where the image is split into three parts. This is a modern looking presentation, and also allows for much larger pieces at a more economical cost (a 36"x72" aluminum triptych is abut half the cost of a single 36"x72" float aluminum image). See examples below, and a custom sized triptych to the right. Other non-standard configurations are also an option. Contact John for a quote.
Gallery Wrap (for canvas) - A stretched canvas where the image wraps around the sides. No framing is needed, and they come ready to hang. Small 10"x15" wraps (which I sell at art festivals) are 3/4" deep, and larger sizes are 1.5" deep.
